Apple to send out invitations for iPad mini event on October 10?
Apple is long rumored to be releasing a new model of iPad mini that will sport a smaller size and will cost less than the larger iPad. Now it seems like these rumors are going to become a reality very soon. Today CNN’s Fortune reports that it has heard from its reliable source which is a major Apple investor that the Cupertino based company will finally hold an event to announce the iPad mini on October 17. A media event will be arranged to announce the new device, and invitations for this event will be sent out to media outlets on October 10.
When Fortune contacted Apple to get their word on this rumor they simply declined to comment, which is a normal behavior as no company confirms its plans in advance. Although Apple has never hinted about releasing a smaller tablet and its legendary late CEO Steve Jobs has ridiculed the idea of smaller form factor for this kind of device, it now seems to be interested in releasing a smaller tablet thanks to the successes enjoyed by Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire line up.
If released iPad mini will feature a 7.85-inch display that is expected to be non-retina like iPad 2′s display to keep the price low, a dual-core processor, 5-megapixel iSight camera, a front camera for video calling, Apple’s new lightning dock connector, Siri, and much more.
iPad mini is also rumored to be priced at around $199-$250 and become available for purchase before this year’s holiday season.
